* Institut national d’études démographiques (1) Each year, this independent organization provides summary data sheets using figures issued by different sources – mainly the United Nations Population Division [2], the United States Census Bureau, the Council of Europe and INED [3] – based on all demographic data published by national statistics agencies and international organizations. Every other year, the summer issue of Population and Societies called The population of the world presents a global picture of the world population. The data shown here can be found in the World Population Data Sheet published by the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) [1] (1).
